Polar | NETFLIX Movie Review | Mads Mikkelsen Action Flick | Spoiler-free

My spoiler-free review of ‘Polar’ from director Jonas Akerlund and Netflix. Based on the graphic novel ‘Polar: Came from the Cold’ by Victor Santos, the movie stars Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick, Fei Ren, Ruby O. Fee, Matt Lucas, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Premise: The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla, is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger killers. – from IMDb.

We *just* watched Polar. I pegged it as a graphic novel, so go me! At one point I looked at Troy and said, “This reallly wants to be a snuff film.” The torture scenes were too much for me, and I had no buy in to the final twist. I would not watch again.

Love your review agree wholeheartedly…i love Mads…hes awesome …in most of his films green butchers adams apples pusher 2 …after the wedding …the hunt …he has such a range…he is the king of micro expressions…no need for much dialogue…he is the current day buster keaton

Good review! I personally quite enjoyed Polar, so much so that I watched it a second time a day later. They nailed the tone of the graphic novel, but I did find the main bad guys quite over the top and pretty annoying. I enjoyed all the scenes in Montana with Mads and Vanessa, had a very serious and emotional vibe to it. The dialogue was pretty cringey at times like you said. Hope Polar does well enough to warrant a sequel. I believe the ending kind of sets that up. Would love to see Mads and Vanessa be at the complete front and centre of the story, I enjoyed their dynamic together.

Mads Mikkelson was good and I quite enjoyed Matt Lucas as the villain but everything else ugh.. the tone was all over the place . This could have been a good film had it toned down all the OTT comedy stuff and gratuity or ditched the seriousness. It didn’t work at all trying to balance the two. Tonal shifts can be good but this one was that tone deaf it felt like two directors at war with each other made it 4/10

Was that Johnny Knoxville? Matt Lucas from Little Brittain? cool. I’d have to say I really liked him in Dr. Strange, only because I’ve heard you say that its the one you dislike the most. J.K. I’ll have to say, Hannibal, only because I hear its good, but I’ve yet to get into the series.
