Andre Black Nerd Review of Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas. A sequel/reboot to the 1995 Jumanji movie starring Robin Williams, this time with the board game being a video game and taking four teenagers into the video game world of Jumanji. How does Jumanji 2017 compare to Jumanji 1995? Could it have stood on its own as a new franchise rather than relying on Jumanji nostalgia? And how funny is Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle? Very!

Note: Jumanji and Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle footage by Sony / Columbia Pictures to use for review purposes under rights of fair use. All opinions 100% my own.

I’m glad you liked it. I was worried it was going to be terrible when I saw rant in the title of your review.

Fractorification says:

The backstory for the board game turning into a video game makes no sense. Jumanji was a board game made by British explores who went to Africa and introduced it to the natives. The Africans loved the concept so much that they made their own and presumably modified one of the boards to make Jumanji where they cursed it with Voodoo magic because they wanted the dangers of the game to feel real. It was never a sentient being to begin with that modifies itself. This backstory is taken straight from one of the scriptwriters of the first films. These guys never made their research.

thedreadedzero says:

It was announced ages ago that there was supposed to be a reference to commemorate Robin Williams in this movie. What did that end up being?

Wade Wilson says:

Its a Fun Movie. Its Fun. Fun,Fun,Fun. Translation: Its Garbage!

Shadowlurkering says:

How did a board game become a video game?
The same way it sucked people inside of a boardgame…MAGIC.

Serously though it make sense. Which is more likely to be left in a school store room, a popular video game system or some dusty retro system with crappy old games?

maxdrags3 says:

kant says:

Karen basically played herself. That’s why she’s’ so good at it. lol

Phyrexian Juggernaut says:

Long or short, the dick jokes in this movie were hard to sit through. One would present it’s ugly head and go for a little too long, I couldn’t wait for some of them to finish. The dick jokes were all over the place but if the movie had a firm grasp on the jokes and held them all together I would have had a more enjoyable time. If this movie was trying to set the balls rolling for sequels it cucked itself with it’s immature humor.

alphega1983 says:

The jungle that robin williams character was in for over 20 years could have been the same environment that the game took the players to in the new one

evangelian007 says:

It’s strange that Sony pretty much did a unnofficial live action remake of Zelda Breath of the Wild. And it surprisingly the best video game based movie….that’s not based on a videogame but on a movie….that’s based on a book…that’s based on a fictional board game.
But I gotta give it to them for actually trying to make an entertaining film and not a preview for a cinematic universe so that’s honestly refreshing.

Shadow Tech says:

I’ll make another film reference that is similar to the new Jumangi movie, “Adventures in Dinosaur City” 1992.

Earl Francart says:

Star law says:

BeyBlader425 says:

I saw Jumanji yesterday, and it was pretty funny. I think the funniest part is the flirting scene when she’s beung taught how to flirt, just all the faces she made everyone in the theater laugh

GundamWarrior1 says:
