Obvious Child, starring Jenny Slate, Jake Lacy, Gaby Hoffman, Gabe Liedman, Richard Kind and Polly Draper, had the misfortune of being labeled “the abortion comedy” following its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, which isn’t a particularly marketable premise but is understandable considering the notable lack of movies that handle the subject with care. The truly distinguishable thing about writer/director Gillian Robespierre’s first film is how it crafts its distinct and modern characters. I don’t understand how a movie about abortion can be funny and romantic it’s literally about killing babies
