K9vendetta The wolf of mordor says:

um for some reason when i just started watching i smell um bbq but ive got no clue why

August Anderson says:

It’s not a horror movie but it’s got a twist that surprised me

Lee Grant says:

I really liked it, but I also wasn’t looking to get scared sh*tless like everyone else was. I thought it was beautifully shot and acted, I loved some of the imagery (buildings shot at angles to look like upside down crosses, the painting with the wolves chasing the deer) the little details really elevated the film for me. If you’re looking to get terrified, it’s not that movie, but if your looking for a well made movie in the horror genre with some cool scares, you will definitely enjoy this film

Michael Hall says:

I started the movie because my cousin showed me those hype ads. I didnt believe them, but I did really enjoy the movie.

valcliff b says:

For me, the one movie I had to step away from halfway through (that I of course LOVED), was Babadook. I mean holy crap, the moment where the Babadook actually visits the mom in her room was all the tension in the movie coming to a head. I was so stressed, I was starting to think the tension would never stop mounting! That movie made me realize just how mild most of the horror was, that I’d been exposed to over the years. Ironically if I had just finished that scene, I would have made it through everything else, even though I was really worried for the boy.

Ron Villanova says:

I was excited for this film because of how hyped up it was
And I watched it and eh
It’s a decent Conjuring-esque movie(if that makes sense)
But I agree the lead actress was amazing

Irrefutable Matt says:

ahhahaha well im sure its an improvement i mean you didnt call him pablo for a whole vlog LOL

August Anderson says:

Josh have you seen mute

Analise Nichole says:

Your Spanish pronunciation was great, btw!

Tony Montana says:

I must be the only one who really liked it then. I didn’t know about the high expectations going in, I just saw one review. I loved the scene where the demon can be seen in the TV reflection and there wasn’t any high pitched jump scare noise. The actress was terrific, the characters felt real, the tension was excellent and there was times I paused it to catch my breath. I’d give it a 7.7/10

Nicole Cardella says:

my feelings about this movie exactly! I LOVED it , but far from the scariest I’ve ever seen.

License Plate Jacket Radio says:

Gonna be honest this movie made me super sad, cause I kept hearing from my normie friends that it was so scary. Then I finally sat down watched it and it was just wildly mediocre. I was just like eh alright. I want to make all my normie friends watch cannibal Holocaust and a Serbian film now. Then be like bring me movie stuff on that level.

Minneow says:

Heh…that part where you mentioned the third girl being there and just wanting to talk to her dead boyfriend who died in a motorcycle accident and you “thought you’d say that anyway even though it wasn’t important to the story.”

I actually had a thought about that. I think I noticed it because the same thing happened to me at that age (or maybe 13…because girls that age are petty and moronic).

(spoilers)

The scenes where we see Rosa avoiding Veronica after the seance and grabbing on to this “more popular” girl who butted in on something Veronica wanted to be private. I took it that when Veronica say Rosa and Popular Chick hanging out with a guy on a motorcycle after school, and when she asked “who was that?” the response was, “Oh…my cousin.”

Another lie and another way that girls break apart bonds when they decide a girl is the “outcast”, and Veronica definitely was. The alienation from everyone in such a short period of 3 days was a big part (in my opinion) of the invader getting such a strong hold on someone vulnerable and under pressure. It can easily be seen as heading down the path of teenage suicide and/or depression as well:

Vero never gets to “be a girl” and go out and have fun, She is always mothering her siblings and the FIRST thing Rosa did when she found a new friend was not want to go over to Vero’s house to be with her and help with the kids. Vero peeps enviously on her neighbor who *does* get to listen to music and dance and sing in her bedroom like she’s on a stage, and who has a father who checks on her and encourages her studying—all while she’s doing the laundry for the family.

Then Rosa doesn’t tell her about a party going on at her own home, starts wearing more make-up than we saw at first, and does her hair differently. And is now hanging around a guy on a motorcycle who gets kisses on the cheeks.

Trust me, all those minute details–all visual and performance, no exposition–were greatly appreciated. I could truly empathize with Veronica and see how she would be open to dark forces.

Sandra Weilbrenner says:

It is based on a true story from madrid spain

Alexandria Vaun says:

I fell asleep watching Veronica and haven’t felt like finishing it so I just watched your spoilers too:) Always love your blood splattered vlogs!

cgro2767 says:

Nice review! Will definitely give this a try and keep my expectations low to be safe.

raine G. says:

Spoiler alert… possibly?

Hey guru, I have a hard time seeing things but the part in the movie where the sibling thinks Veronica choked her.. did the symbols catch on fire? Or with editing it didn’t show us?

Autumn Henneman says:

And ya, I didn’t stop watching it, or paused it, but I still think it’s a good one

JT Zimm says:

Totally agree with your assessment of the lead actress. She was amazing. As a huge fan of REC, I was ready to believe the hype, but I didn’t feel a single moment of fear or dread. The plot was as by-the-numbers as can be, and the use of CGI was inexcusable. It took me out of the film each and every time. Beyond that, I want my demons to look like demons. This took me more to alien invasion films than demon horror. Very disappointing. I’d love to get your take on HERE COMES THE DEVIL. Apologies if you’ve already reviewed it.

TheSlayFer Ch. T. says:

Your pronunciation of the Spanish names is ok, you just have the usual problem Americans have where your accent doesn’t lend itself to Spanish/Latino names.

TOMBZ23 says:

YES!!!

Daniel Giles says:

Gotta love morning uploads. Good pre 9-5 work entertainment.

Satria Kurniawann Djaenal says:

I’m always skeptical when I hear “scariest of all time”, just because “scariest” is so subjective. I, for example, have never been able to get into slasher films, just because a human villain never really scared me, but something like The Thing’s monster freaked me out big time. Edit: Ju-on also made me shit my pants (not literally) the first time I saw it.

By the way, where’s Count Jackula?

Toto San says:

Noroi The Curse. That’s the scariest movie I ever saw. Good luck if you want to scare me more hehe

V-TRO says:

Crushin it with vlogs lately guru niiice

El Barto says:

Guru are you familiar with Eibon Press, a company that makes comics based off of Fulci movies?

tonk82 says:

As a spanish guy… i must admit that the location and era were a plus. It’s a very good movie, and it’s based on one story that is quite popular around here. Even the humour worked for me, an thats rare.

Jami JoAnne Russell says:

Watched this yesterday and have to agree – there was a couple of jump scares that kind of made me twing, but otherwise not scared at all. I LIKED it – good, solid acting, decent writing – but it didn’t scare me. Which is kind of disappointing as I’m looking for a good scare right now. I think the real reason people might turn it off halfway through is they just can’t handle subtitles. I know a lot of people like that, “I just want to watch a movie, not have to read!” Which is sad because they miss out on great movies like Pan’s Labyrinth and the like.

Jeremy Jenkins says:

7/10. Wasn’t all that scary. However, a couple of jumpscares got me but overall, it wasn’t all that new. It’s another paranormal/demon possession film in Spanish. Enjoyable, watchable, and you can watch it in one sitting.

Otter Paw Studios says:

I’m glad you got around to this one! I did love it, but my god, people were blowing it way out of proportion. It’s a really good movie, but it’s not because it’s scarier than all the others.

robthezoologyguy says:

I really enjoyed it. Very well made, but not a game changer. Great review!

bernice stockwell says:

It’s based on the case of Estefania Gutierrez Lazaro, her case is Still marked down as a mysterious death

Me Me says:

I like your presentation, but please, please, please… stop waving your hands so much!

Autumn Henneman says:

I went into it knowing nothing, so … sorry

Autumn Henneman says:

YES!!! I suggested this on facebook, thank you!!

Autumn Henneman says:

Ur explaining it too fast, u took so long on the post strangers, and this movie has way more too it.
Still… I love u horror guru

MovieWizardReviews says:

This is why I’m glad you covered this, I didn’t think this was scary at all. Not the worst horror movie I’ve ever seen, but not scary.

MiscellaneousSoup says:

Tangentially related: The Archie Horror imprint released a new horror comic yesterday, Vampironica.
